Colour therapy is a complementary therapy that can be used alongside conventional medicine. Its simplicity
allows it to be combined with other complementary therapies but it can also stand alone as a complete treatment in its own
right. It is a way of life and a universal language.
Whether we are aware of it or not, colour affects our physical, mental and spiritual self. Today we
are re-discovering the immense importance of colour in our everyday lives, once again it is being recognised and understood
for its profound and transformative healing properties.
Our ancestors knew much of colour therapy and today we are re-discovering the health benefits
of natural daylight. Our bodies are dependant on light and operate as a prism, when sun shines onto our body the 'white' light
creates the rainbow colours which fragment equally into the seven main chakras or energy centres of the body, these can be
likened to our 'batteries', when our batteries are low they need a boost of natural light to re-balance and work at optimum
level.
There are seven chakras and each is associated with a different colour
- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
See 'Colour Meanings - Red - Violet' page for indepth colour meanings.
Our bodies depend on natural light to survive, we need colour to maintain
our well-being and good health. Generally the more we can bathe in natural day light the better we will feel.
Our bodies need a regular dose of sunlight to stay in good health physically, emotionally, mentally
& spirituality. Light contains all the colours of the spectrum that help us to remain balanced on all levels.
Ultraviolet light within sunlight is essential in the production of vitamin D that aids calcium absorption
within the body. Studies have shown that light boosts seratonin levels in the brain providing a relief for a variety of psychological
disorders including eating disorders, seasonal affective disorder & depression.
Long hours spent working indoors can lead to light deprivation, which has significant effects on health
including stress, fatigue, depression, lack of concentration, hyperactivity in children & weak teeth & bones.
Taking daily walks in nature, whatever the weather is a good and natural way to boost our light intake.
Absorbing light through the eyes without glasses has been proven to be beneficial to our overall health as it has a direct
influence on the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus controls the nervous system, stimulates the hormonal system via the pineal
gland & regulates our metabolism.]
We can be mindful of the gifts that sunlight gives to us each day, as without the sun there would
be no life, light or warmth. The early part of each day is a time when we can receive the healing rays & tune into the
stillness of the dawn. This is a time when we all can feel a reverence for life that animals naturally recognise & that
man has sadly lost.
